Belfast Council has agreed to a new funding request involving the provision of portable toilets for a July Twelfth event at a cost of more than £1,500.
Representatives were asked to approve one-off funding requests from both the Co Antrim Grand Orange Lodge and the Belfast Hills Partnership.
They unanimously agreed to consider providing £1,656 to the Co Antrim Grand Orange Lodge to provide portable toilets for a July Twelfth event at Fullerton Park in the south of the city.
Belfast Hills Partnership requested an additional £11,070, alongside a current Belfast Council annual allocation of £36,900. The committee agreed to defer consideration of this request.
Sinn Féin councillor Ciaran Beattie said: “Regarding Belfast Hills, it is a very worthwhile project, but the worry on this is that obviously groups across the city are struggling with revenue. We did have a funding framework that was set out which was a discretionary fund which allowed for groups like this who need to make a shortfall.
“The other one I don’t have an issue with, (that is) the request from the Orange Lodge for the toilets.”
