A North Carolina man says he will use his nearly half-a-million-dollar lottery winnings to pay off the house he had bought just one day before winning.
Benny Murphy, who is from Mebane Alamance County in North Carolina, won $439,527 from a lottery ticket he purchased for just $1 at a Quickmart.
Just one day before purchasing the lottery ticket, he had bought a house in Mebane.

“I closed on a house on Wednesday,” he told NC Education Lottery.
“They made a joke about lower payments if I won the lottery.”
Mr Murphy claimed his Cash 5 drawing lottery winnings earlier this week and took home $314,262 after required federal and state tax withholdings.
He added that while he intends to pay off his new home, he intends to use some of the money towards a fishing trip and put some away for savings.
Well-wishers expressed their happiness for Mr Murphy on the comment section of the NC Education lottery website.
“Congratulations Benny on your winnings, your new home, plus now no payments,” one person said, “Enjoy your fishing trip.”

The win comes just two weeks after a Lincoln County grandmother took home over $1.7m from NC Education Lottery and said that she would put it towards giving her grandchildren “a nice future”.
