The dangers of our beautiful coastlines

As we enter the holiday period, the campaign launched by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution about the unexpected dangers which can be found on our coastlines is timely.

It is particularly disturbing that a majority of the eight people who lost their lives along the coasts of Northern Ireland last year had never intended to enter the water.

The RNLI has highlighted the risks which can be caused by slippery rocks and sudden waves, even for individuals who have simply gone out for a walk or a run.

It is essential that the message from the RNLI, which is that the water needs to be both enjoyed and respected, is widely accepted in the coming months.
