Pathetic targetting of memorials

There are few activities as pathetic as the deliberate and persistent vandalising of a memorial dedicated to victims of violence in any section of society.

A stone column which commemorates the eight Protestant workers who died in an explosion at Teebane crossroads near Cookstown in Co Tyrone in 1992 has now been attacked twice in little over a month.

The latest shameful episode involved the pouring of white paint over the tribute just weeks after floral wreaths left there were damaged.

Those responsible bring only shame on any cause with which they claim to be associated and they fully deserve to be brought before the courts without delay.
