Deep regret over premature death

There will be widespread regret over the premature death of Martin Magee, at the age of 43, just under 25 years after he lost his twin brother, Peter, in a loyalist attack on Sean Graham's bookmakers in south Belfast.

Five people, including 18-year-old Peter Magee, were killed, and several others were left seriously injured, when a UDA gang opened fire at random inside the lower Ormeau Road shop.

Martin Magee was badly affected by the tragedy, and, as we report today, friends believe that it directly contributed to his eventual death from liver failure.

His passing is a reminder of the stark issues which face many other relatives of victims of violence in all sections of our divided society.
