Security review needed after Derry dumper truck chaos

There will be widespread alarm after youths stole a large dumper truck from a building site in Derry and drove it completely recklessly through a number of housing estates.

The heavy vehicle left behind a trail of a havoc after it was taken from the Skeoge Road area of the city late on Tuesday, with considerable damage caused when it collided with lampposts and street signs.

It was very fortunate that no one was injured as the truck careered around the densely populated Galliagh district until it was eventually abandoned and later recovered by police.

Security arrangements at construction sites in the city clearly need to be reviewed to ensure that there can be no repetition of the disturbing episode.
