There will be enormous relief that the body of the Co Mayo GAA player David Gavin has finally been recovered almost a year after he went missing while swimming in a Canadian lake.
Mr Gavin (26) had been working in Vancouver last June when he took a trip to Kinbasket reservoir, about 260 km west of Calgary, and a massive operation was launched after he did not surface after diving into the Columbia river.
His relatives and friends, with the support of his home club of Breaffy, raised more than €100,000 to keep the searches going in difficult weather conditions throughout the winter.
The breakthrough came when water levels eventually dropped, allowing a specialist team to locate his remains, and the thoughts and prayers of the entire community will be with his family as they prepare for his funeral.
