Worthy plan to protect Mount Errigal

Mount Errigal is one of Donegal’s greatest attractions, and is in many way the symbol of the entire county, but its sheer popularity has led to growing environmental concerns over the impact of erosion.

It is estimated that over 25,000 people climb the accessible peak every year, with the result that walking tracks have become worn in its foothills and gullies created at the summit.

As we report today, plans supported by Donegal County Council to repair the damage and eventually build a proper path all the way to the top of Errigal have reached an advanced stage.

The project is a very worthy one, and there is every reason to believe that it will protect and sustain the majestic mountain for future generations over many decades to come.
