As one of thousands of commuters trapped in the recently manifested gridlock on the streets of central Belfast, I call on Department for Infrastructure minister John O’Dowd to explain the chaos on the arterial routes to and from Belfast.
After a summer of road works on seemingly every main road and a bus lane installed running next to a cycle lane on the Dublin Road (traffic from three directions attempting to merge into one lane is madness during rush hour), we now have the chaos created by the accommodation of the Grand Central Station travel hub, and 30-minute journeys now take upwards of an hour or more to travel.
It would be helpful if Minister O’Dowd could tell us why private companies were given licence to tear up most main roads, why urban clearways are not observed and why traffic signals totally lack coordination. Nothing moves.
