1914: A rugby league Challenge Cup scoring record was set when Huddersfield beat Swinton Park Rangers 119-2. Rochdale surpassed that with their 120-4 win over Illingworth in 2005.

1990: Northamptonshire and England cricketer Colin Milburn died at the age of 48.

2001: The seven-day suspension of horse racing in Britain due to the outbreak of foot and mouth disease began.

2006: Robbie Keane was confirmed as the new Republic of Ireland captain.

2007: Darren Gough was unveiled as the new captain of Yorkshire, three years after leaving his home county to join Essex.

2009: A try from Brian O'Driscoll helped Ireland to a 14-13 win over England in the Six Nations. Ireland went on to secure a first Grand Slam in 61 years.

2010: Manchester United won the Carling Cup with a 2-1 win over Aston Villa in the final at Wembley.

2012: Dereck Chisora was handed an indefinite ban and heavy fine by the World Boxing Council following his behaviour before and after his heavyweight title fight with Vitali Klitschko earlier in the month, which included being embroiled in a brawl with British rival David Haye at the post-fight press conference.

2015: Peter Crouch equalled Alan Shearer's Premier League record of 46 headed goals, seconds after coming on as a substitute as Stoke beat Hull.
