IT'S been a thrilling week for Irish cyclist Marcus Christie.

On Sunday at Eglinton, the Derry man rode to victory in the Ulster Cycling 10-mile time trial event, clocking a very fast time of 18m 34 seconds and averaging 32mph.

That dazzling performance followed hard on the heels of Christie smashing his Irish 50-mile time trial record at Woodgreen, Ballymena earlier in the week, slicing almost five minutes of his own Irish record.

His time of 1 hr 35 mins and 32 seconds is the third fastest ever in the UK and the fastest time recorded in the world this year.

Riding one of four-time Olympic champion Bradley Wiggins’s former time trial bikes, Christie showed what he is capable of, averaging 31.6mph or just under 50kms per hour or by an equivalent distance of 2.5 miles faster than his previous record three years ago.

His time on Wednesday was the equivalent of doing five back-to-back 10-mile TTs - at an average of 19 minutes for each 10 miles.
