The Irish News - February 3 2010: Killie ruin Robbie's party
Clydesdale Bank Premier League: Kilmarnock1 Celtic 0
Tony Mowbray last night refused to concede the Clydesdale Bank Premier League title to Rangers despite his Celtic reign sinking to a new low with defeat at Kilmarnock.
Robbie Keane's debut went spectacularly awry at Rugby Park as Killie beat the Hoops for the first time in 32 attempts to leave Mowbray's men 10 points adrift (23 games played, Rangers 54 points, Celtic 44, 15 games left) of their arch-rivals.
Keane wasted two gilt-edged chances to cement his hero status among Celtic fans, thousands of whom turned out to welcome him to Parkhead at midnight on Monday night.
Asked how the low of last night compared with the high of Keane's unveiling, Mowbray snapped back: “Highs for who? Highs for you or highs for me? “Players coming in, that's what we're trying to do. I've been saying that for a long time.
“We going to try to build this club to the point where we can compete very successfully, both domestically and in Europe.”
