Wexford preview

HURRICANE Georgie looks like she could be thrown in on her return to hurdling at Wexford today.

The Gordon Elliott-trained mare has developed into a decent sort over fences and was just denied in a Listed event on her penultimate outing at Fairyhouse.

She now has a mark of 134 over fences after some solid runs in good races and if she can carry any of her improvement over the larger obstacles back to this discipline she'd be hard to beat.

A mark of 102 over hurdles is a big discrepancy and though it doesn't always work out that horses can repeat the same level in different codes she is hard to ignore.

It actually looks like a competitive contest for this two-and-a-half mile mares handicap hurdle and Good As Hell could be the main danger after a recent course and distance success.

Philip Fenton's charge made all for a convincing win here 11 days ago and a mark of 106 for her handicap debut doesn't look harsh.

Gotthenod is another coming into the race in winning form having scored in good style at Kilbeggan last month.

She beat Glory For Molly that day and despite being 5lb worse off with that rival she may be able to confirm those placings.

It's a decent little race but Hurricane Georgie could well be a cut above her rivals.

Elliott can also strike with The Bosses Oscar in the three-mile conditions race later on the card.

The Oscar gelding had a disappointing winter campaign but ran much better when fourth to Shewearsitwell at Killarney recently.

He was returning from a little break then and it was a decent effort among a bunch of good horses.

This looks a slightly easier task now and the seven-year-old, who was second in the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham in 2021, looks well placed to get back to winning ways.

Some of the lower grade handicaps on the card may provide a bit better value for punters and Tenth Amendment is an interesting one in the second division of the two-mile-one race.

He drops into this 80-95 grade for the first time over timber and has shown some decent form on the Flat recently.

A wide draw didn't help at Navan last time, when he had to use up petrol early on to race prominently but he had run really well when second at Bellewstown previously.

He had some decent form over timber going back a few years and this looks a very winnable opportunity now.
