DOWN boss Conor Laverty has added former Tyrone minor manager Mickey Donnelly to his backroom team.

Donnelly, who led Mayobridge to their last Down SFC titles in 2007 and 2008, joins Marty Clarke and Declan Morgan on Laverty’s coaching staff as they bid to turn around the Mourne County’s fortunes following a forgettable 2022.

Aghaloo clubman Donnelly has also managed the Derry U20s - leading the Oak Leafs to the 2018 Ulster title - while recent years have seen him take charge of Ballybay in Monaghan, as well as Aghaloo and Ardboe.

After dropping into Division Three of the National League, earning promotion will be Down’s immediate priority next year, while Laverty’s men face a trip to Donegal for their Ulster Championship quarter-final.
