With Carl Frampton taking to Twitter to confirm that he will defend his WBA world featherweight title in a rematch against former champion Leo Santa Cruz, we took a look back at some of The Jackal’s most memorable one-liners …

1. “I've had a silver spoon? I'm from the ghetto. I'm from T Bay - that's the ghetto mate!”

Ahead of his IBF super bantamweight title fight against Chris Avalos in February 2015, Frampton had a quick comeback for the Californian fighter when he claimed Frampton was born with a 'silver spoon in his mouth'.

2. “He’s a big man but it wouldn’t take me 30 seconds to sort Eddie Hearn out.”

In the early stages of the press events ahead of Frampton’s bout with long-time rival Scott Quigg, it was not the then WBA super bantamweight champion that the Tigers Bay man had in his crosshairs - but rather boxing promoter Eddie Hearn and Quigg’s coach Joe Gallagher. Frampton never hid his views on the pair, claiming them to be the ‘definition of arrogance’. But none of his jibes were clearer than this one.

3. “His lack of intelligence outside of the ring reflects on how he fights inside the ring. He has that down as one of his strengths but I have it down as one of his weaknesses.”

As the bout drew closer, Frampton’s attentions turned to Quigg, and he certainly didn’t hold back.

4. “I was going to say coffee but they’ll all be on the booze. Do you know what Buckfast is? They’ll have some of that and they’ll be alright.”

When compared to the Quigg fight, Frampton’s first bout with Leo Santa Cruz was tame when it came to the verbal sparring. But that didn’t stop The Jackal showcasing his quick wit when EsNews reporter Elie Seckbach asked how his fans at home would stay up for the 4am fight. The answer... some of Buckfast Abbey's finest.

5. “Hopefully I don’t have to buy a pint for the next 20 years”

Speaking in the ring after his historic victory over Santa Cruz in Brooklyn, Frampton was clearly keen for someone else to pick up the tab on his victory pints.
