FORMER heavyweight champion of the world Tyson Fury has announced his immediate retirement from boxing after his second defeat in a row to Oleksandr Usyk last month.

The ‘Gypsy King’ lost to Usyk by unanimous decision in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He and his team heavily dispute the decisions of both of his fights against Usyk.

In a message he released on social media, he said: “I’m gonna make this short and sweet, I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing.

“It’s been a blast, I’ve loved every single minute of it.

“I‘m going to end with this, Dick Turpin wore a mask.”

The cryptic message at the end could hint at Fury’s outrage at the decision to award the fight to Usyk as ‘even Dick Turpin wore a mask’ is a common expression when someone feels that they have been robbed or conned.

This is not the first time that Fury has stepped away from the ring, first doing so in 2021, promising that his mandatory WBC title defence against Dillan Whyte would be his last fight.

His retirement lasted two months before he fought Derek Chisora.

This short-lived retirement was documented by Netflix and was released titled ‘At Home with the Furys’, which showed Tyson Fury’s adjustment to retirement and his eventual comeback to boxing.
