Count on Countess Of Tyrone to deliver victory at Down Royal

Paddy Twomey can taste success with Countess Of Tyrone at Down Royal on Friday evening

Countess Of Tyrone is fancied to come out on top in the two-mile Listed contest at Down Royal on Friday evening.

The Australia filly makes just her fourth career start and there looks to be further improvement in the four-year-old.

She was impressive when taking her maiden at Galway last summer and that win came on decent ground.

It has been testing conditions for her two outings this year and nicer going should suit.

She got no run when pitched into Listed company on her return this season but ran really well last time when chasing home Enfranchise at the same level in Gowran Park.

The big chestnut galloped to the line that day and going up another couple of furlongs doesn’t look like it will be a problem.

Falcon Eight sets the standard with an official mark of 108 and is a classy stayer on his day.

The Galileo gelding has already had two runs this season.

He missed the kick in a valuable handicap at Chester earlier this month and was staying on at the death to finish seventh.

The now nine-year-old signed off last season with an impressive victory in Group Three company over two miles at the Curragh and obviously retains plenty of ability.

He does have to give away 9lb to a potentially progressive filly now and preference is for the Paddy Twomey-trained runner.

Serious Challenge is another consistent performer who deserves a mention but Countess Of Tyrone gets the vote to make her mark now at stakes level.

Earlier on the card, Betula can give in-form trainer Jessica Harrington another winner in the fillies’ maiden over seven furlongs.

The daughter of Lope De Vega ran in some hot races last season, finishing fourth to Oaks favourite Ylang Ylang on debut and being pitched into Group Two company on her second outing.

This nicer ground may suit better than the testing conditions she faced on her final outing and with a mark of 87 she sets a fair standard now on her return.

In the 10-furlong maiden,  Zariygann can strike after a promising effort on his return at Sligo recently.

The Sea The Moon gelding stayed on into third behind Intellotto 16 days ago and can confirm that form now with fourth placed Wisdomofhindsight.
