TWO Belfast bars have been named as among the top 25 venues in the UK and Ireland to enjoy Euro 2016 by two leading drinks writers.

The Hudson Bar on Gresham Street and The Errigle Inn on the Ormeau Road were chosen as great venues to watch the football by ‘The Thinking Drinkers’ Ben McFarland and Tom Sandham and Farah menswear.

The pair are authors and drinks columnists for the Daily Telegraph, while McFarland has been named British Beer Writer of the Year three times.

The Hudson was rated the sixth best bar in the UK and Ireland to watch Euro 2016. It was praised for their “legendary” chicken wings and “eclectic range of whiskeys” and described as a pub which welcomes “colourful non-threatening tattoos, baseball caps and generous love of the lumberjack shirt.” The Thinking Drinkers gave it a rating of 4/5 for its TV screens and 5/5 for beer.

They were impressed with the 26 screens on offer at the Errigle Inn as well as the “intelligent footy chat” from the regulars. The Ormeau Road pub was ranked as the number 11 destination to enjoy the football in Ireland or the UK.

“Throw in a roof garden, a beer garden and even an off-licence and - well - you’ve got yourself a proper pub,” they said. The Errigle received a 5/5 rating for its screens and 4/5 for its beer.

Dublin pubs The Living Room and The Back Page were also included on the list, while The Water Poet in London was picked as their overall favourite.
