Israeli side Maccabi Tel Aviv have announced that former Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane will take over as head coach for the upcoming season.
The Tallaught-born frontman scored 68 goals for Ireland the most scored by any player, and also holds the record for the most caps won, playing for the boys in green 146 times.
Keane has had experiences of coaching before, having been the assistant manager for both Middlesborough and the Republic of Ireland as well as being a player-manager at his last club, ATK in Kalkuta.
Keane was most recently part of Sam Allardyce's backroom staff at Leeds during his four-game survival push, which proved unsuccessful.
Keane said: "I am happy to take on this challenge at Maccabi. My team and I are already looking forward to starting work and we are confident in our ability to do what is necessary to prepare the team for the upcoming season."
The 42-year-old will take over from former Middlesborough manager Aitor Karanka, who was in charge for just six months.
Mitch Goldhar added: "Robbie brings with him the mentality, character, energy and focus of a winner, qualities that he demonstrated everywhere he played.
"These characteristics combined with the ambitions to succeed as a coach are in line with our goals at Maccabi."
