Over 50 sixth form students lined out recently for a hugely-successful initiative at the Ulster University in Jordanstown, outside Belfast.

The Ulster Universities GAA Football and Hurling Camp in initiative featured a fully-interactive, high-performance programme with a focus on sport nutrition and psychology as well as insight and advice on student career and course selection.

All the students taking part received an Ulster Óg kit.

Ulster University Jordanstown GAA president John Farrell is pictured presenting a jersey to sponsor Kevin McCabe (centre), Tyrone’s first Allstar winner. Also pictured after receiving their jerseys are Odhran Lynch of Derry, Darragh Canavan (Tyrone) and Down’s Malachai and Ardan McAvoy along with Irish News marketing manager John Brolly

''My thanks to everyone for making the inaugural Kevin McCabe School of Excellence such a huge success,'' said UU GAA president John Farrell.

''We are indebted to Kevin McCabe, Ulster Schools Council, The Irish News, staff and students of Ulster University, schools and teachers from across Ulster and of course, the new Ulster Ógs.''

Irish News marketing manager John Brolly echoed those sentiments, adding that The Irish News was delighted to be associated ''with such a fantastic sporting initiative. All concerned are to be applauded for the tremendous efforts they put in to making it such a first class event.''
