Lidl Post Primary Ladies’ Schools Football All-Ireland Junior A final: Loreto, Cavan v Intermediate School, Killorglin (Kerry) (today, Banagher, 1pm)

LORETO, Cavan are looking to complete an All-Ireland double when the school’s junior team vie for glory against Intermediate School, Killorglin in this afternoon’s All-Ireland Junior A Championship Final at Banagher.

The senior team achieved an historic first All-Ireland last Saturday, defeating their Clonmel namesakes 3-5 to 1-7 in a hugely entertaining game at Coralstown/Kinnegad.

On the back of that success managers Conor Maguire and Aine Shannon will be hoping the junior team can channel that winning feeling and energy into getting the same result today.

Loreto have an advantage in that 15 of the senior panel are also on the junior squad and that experience, both of playing at a senior level and of being in an All-Ireland final, could prove invaluable.

They include joint captains Elaine Brady, who is a midfielder with the seniors, and full-forward Aine Reilly, as well as goalkeeper Ciara Boylan, full-back Muireann Smith, corner-forward Ally Cahill and super sub Aisling Walls.

Loreto, Cavan were here at this same stage a year ago and lost out to Limerick school John the Baptist Community School by two points.

Just as the senior team did in the senior All-Ireland semi-finals, they ended Presentation College, Tuam’s hopes, winning 6-9 to 4-5

In the other semi-final, IS Killorglin defeated Loreto Secondary School, St Michael’s, Navan 3-13 to 3-6.
