KILLEAVY’S teenage sensation Grainne Boylan has scooped the golden boot award in the Armagh Ladies Senior Football Championship finishing ahead of local legends Caroline O’Hanlon and Aimee Mackin.

Seventeen-year-old Grainne bagged a staggering 5-19 in just two championship games against Clan nan Gael and eventual champions Lissummon.

Described by former Armagh ace and Killeavy clubman Stevie McDonnell as an “exceptional footballer”, Grainne said: “It’s a good achievement to beat the likes of Aimee and Caroline because they are players I look up to and to beat them is a great feeling. I’m delighted.”

Grainne, who has been playing senior club football since she was 15 alongside her sister Emma, says it’s her “dream” to represent her county at senior level.

“I played with the boys right up to U14 as there were no girls team up until then,” she said. “So I wasn’t afraid to give or take the hits.”

The A Levels student and county minor wants to go on and study sports psychology and eventually work in GAA.

Grainne paid tribute to her coaches Kieran King, Shane Bannon and Sean King, adding: “The belief in our team is instilled in us by our coaches – it’s as important as the physical training.”

Lissummon may have gone on to beat Ballyhegan in the county decider – but the 2020 championship will be remembered for Grainne Boylan’s indelible contribution for Killeavy.
