Top score

COLDRICK-McCarthy-Scully-McCarthy-Rock… Goal. It took an All-Ireland final record of just 13 seconds from the ball was thrown-in until it hit the back of the Mayo net on Saturday evening. Mayo battled back after wards, but the goal said so much about Dublin’s ambition and poise on a big occasion.

McCarthy’s pass to his Ballymun clubmate Rock was perfection and his finish, over the advancing David Clarke, was equally good.

You could argue the case for other scores including Con O’Callaghan’s goal and Brian Howard’s superb point.

Turning point

THE final quarter began with Dublin just a point ahead and the game seemingly in the melting pot. Ciaran Kilkenny changed all that with a superb score. Kilkenny broke to collect a James McCarthy pass, turned Stephen Coen and slotted the ball over with ease. It was a score that said: ‘Just get the ball to me boys’ and even though it left just two between the sides there seemed no way back for Mayo. Dublin never looked like losing after it.
