Former Cavan manager Mattie McGleenan has been appointed manager at his home club, Eglish.

McGleenan, who guided Scotstown to three Monaghan titles in three years, and to the Ulster Club final in 2015, takes over from Paul Coney, who led the St Patrick’s to promotion at the end of last season, finishing second in the Tyrone Division Two League.

Despite uncertainty over the timing of league football in the 2021 season, virtually all of Tyrone’s top tier clubs have confirmed their management for the new campaign.

McGleenan is the latest big name to take over a team in the Red Hand county as preparations begin for the most competitive club championship in Ulster.

He spent two years in charge of the Breffni men, succeeding Terry Hyland at the start of the 2017 season, and his departure was followed by the appointment of current boss Mickey Graham.

Eglish return to the premier grade in Tyrone boosted by the return of former under-age star Conor McKenna, who is back home permanently after retiring from his professional AFL career with Essendon.

McKenna, who has already made a big impact in his first three games for the Tyrone senior side, joins a clutch of promising young prospects at the club, which spent just one season in Intermediate football following relegation in 2019.

Former Tyrone star McGleenan was a bustling full-forward back in the 80's, using his height and power to punch home several vital goals for the Red Hands.

Another Eglish man, Lorcan Martin, is to manage Edendork for a second successive season, after leading them to promotion with a league and championship double. He will be assisted once again by Garry Currie.

John Moylan, who led Galbally to the Ulster IFC final in 2019, is staying with the club following an impressive first season back in senior football.

The Cork native will be assisted by Paul O’Hagan, Kevin Kelly and Niall Corrigan.

And Loughmacrory are sticking with the management team that helped them to promotion at the end of 2019.

Martin McConnell is once again in charge of the St Teresa’s, assisted by Ciaran Meenagh, Pat Donaghy and Conal Curran.

County champions Dungannon Clarkes have confirmed that manager Chris Rafferty will once again be assisted by Terry Loughran.

And Chrissy Gorman and Brendan Harkin will be involved in Mark Henry’s backroom team at Killyclogher.

Trillick have also completed their management cohort, confirming that Malachy McElholm and Conor Daly will join boss Nigel Seaney and Liam Donnelly.
