ARMAGH forward Aimee Mackin was named the Ladies’ Gaelic Football Association’s Player of the Month for July yesterday.
Mackin was in scintillating form for the Orchard county during their TG4 All-Ireland Championship campaign, as she racked up a mammoth personal tally of 4-28 from four outings.
Mackin’s haul leaves her out in front in the race for the inaugural ZuCar Golden Boot award, which will be presented to the leading scorer at the conclusion of this year’s Championship.
In the month of July alone, the Shane O’Neill’s star collected a combined 3-22 against Monaghan, Cavan and Mayo. The 24-year-old scored 0-5 against Monaghan, 0-10 in the victory over Cavan and a stunning 3-7 as Armagh got the better of Mayo in the group stages.
While Armagh bowed out of the Championship at the quarter-final stage in a defeat to Meath earlier this month, Mackin still managed to record 1-6 on the day.
Last year, Mackin was the TG4 Senior Players’ Player of the Year award winner, as voted by her peers, on the back of a stellar season which saw Armagh reach an All-Ireland semi-final against Dublin. She continued that excellent form into 2021 and Armagh have the chance to claim silverware next Saturday when they take on Donegal in the Ulster senior final.
Meanwhile, Waterford hurling boss Liam Cahill has been selected as the recipient of the July EirGrid Manager Moment of the Month award after he led his side to an All-Ireland SHC semi-final against defending champions Limerick.
