Ulster Club Ladies’ JFC semi-finals

Carryduff II (Down) v Lavey (Derry)  (Sunday, Carryduff, 2pm)

A SHOOT-OUT between Carryduff’s Maura Morgan and Lavey’s Carla Collins could decide who comes through this one.

Teenager Collins has almost single-handledly beaten opposition teams as Lavey continue to blaze a trail through the championship.

Her winning goal from the penalty spot helped them to a 2-7 to 1-7 win over Clonmore last weekend just as it looked like the game was headed to extra-time.

Moran, meanwhile, scored four points to help her side to a 1-9 to 1-5 win over Antrim champions St John’s.

Lavey will certainly fancy their chances despite having to make the journey to Carryduff.

They know they have nothing to lose and their victory over Clonmore in their first-ever provincial championship game will have given them a lot of confidence.

Carryduff have built up some momentum with a win over Belcoo in the preliminary round and with the home advantage they will be confident of reaching the final.

Tyholland (Monaghan) v Dungloe (Donegal) (Sunday, Tyholland, 2pm)

IT’s the battle of the red and the white as Tyholland and An Clochan Liath go head-to-head for a place in the Ulster junior final.

Both teams needed extra-time to see off their quarter-final opponents.

Tyholland defeated Cavan side Cuchulainns 1-11 to 1-8, while Dungloe also had three points to spare over Coalisland, 0-18 to 2-9. Both also needed late points to force extra-time.

With little turnaround time between their quarter-final last Sunday and this semi-final game, this week will have been about recovery and trying to do some homework on the opposition.

Aoibhin McCormack and Zara Gillanders are two to watch for Tyholland, while Dungloe have plenty of firepower in their forward lines.

They had seven different scorers in their win over Coalisland, Tara Kate Geoghegan hitting seven points, Ulitah Boyle four and Patrice Boyle three, while they can also call on the experience of Donegal county player Saskia Boyle.
