Scotstown's collective effort sees them past Trillick

Rory Beggan: Put big pressure on Trillick kick-outs in first half and converted a ‘45’ from out on sideline – but partly at fault for the goal. His presence outfield freed up space for colleagues. 7

Brendan Boylan: Perhaps his pony-tail caught the eye but he appeared to be perpetual motion, racing forward regularly but also doing sterling defensive work. 6.5

Ryan O’Toole: Mostly picking up Sean O’Donnell and doing well until first half added time. Bounced back well and added to attack, levelling late in normal time. 6.5

Damien McArdle: Dogged defensive recovery work and also got forward to assist. A lion-hearted leader at the back, booked around the hour mark. 6.5

Conor McCarthy: Up against three different men, but general Daniel Donnelly was pinning him back, to good effect. More effective as the game went on and stepped up in style to force extra time. 7

Donal Morgan: Scored a good point from the left wing and limited Niall Donnelly’s influence very well. 7

Emmett Caulfield: Opened the scoring in style and got his hands on plenty of possession, using it well or taking it off the opposition. 7

Darren Hughes: Taking on Richie Donnelly, started well, but his man began to make more impact. Typically, the veteran stuck at it and was still going strong in extra time. 7.5

Michael McCarville: A slow start but grew into the game, using his physical presence to excellent effect to win possession and snuff out dangerous opposition attacks. 7

Jason Carey: Good tackle back in an industrious display but shot a wide and kicked another one long. Broke even against his marker O’Donnell. 6

Shane Carey: Took a nice point on the run, and added a free in first half. His creativity was key for Scotstown, including setting up McCarthy’s crucial score – and he struck the winner from a free. 8

James Hamill: Offered a good outlet with his height and movement but didn’t threaten to score and was subbed. 6

Mattie Maguire: Operating as the spare man, linked play well, then made big impact with two scores in the third quarter. 7

Kieran Hughes: Dropper much deeper as usual and made a great high take in defence but shot a wide. Fired over one phenomenal score (and scored one other point) and teamed up well with brother Darren in extra time. 7.5

Jack McCarron: Began badly with three wides but did score a good point on the loop. Never stopped working, scored three frees, and won possession at important moments. 7.5

Substitutes:

Mark McPhillips: Replaced Hamill, maintaining height around the middle third, and put himself about physically. 6

Darragh Murray:  Came in for Jason Carey and made a good impression, well involved in his side’s attacks. 7

Ross McKenna: On for Maguire, playing in a more attacking way, and won the late free which sealed victory. 6.5

Ryan Malley: The Donegal native came on for extra time but was taken off again, Jason Carey returning. 5
