Godblessyourosie can build on promising debut to score at Bellewstown

A slight step up in trip will suit and she should be a big player now with natural improvement

Godblessyourosie looked like she would improve from her racecourse debut and can step forward to score at Bellewstown this evening.

Rachael Blackmore’s mount was a touch keen early on when making her first start at Limerick in late May and was held up in the early stages.

She made up ground turning for home then but a slight error two out just halted her progress momentarily as she failed to make an impression on the leaders.

The Lauro filly stayed on nicely on the run-in though when fourth to Farfromnowehere and should have learned plenty from that experience.

A slight step up in trip will suit and she should be a big player now with natural improvement.

It’s a competitive enough mares’ maiden and Cottesloe Sunshine is another who ran really well last time and has to be a leading player. The Joseph O’Brien-trained mare was third to a decent looking sort in Just For Love at Punchestown last month.

She was headed going to the last then but kept on again in the closing stages and this is probably a slightly weaker race now.

Wudya has been placed twice but was beaten a long way in Tramore last time and needs to improve on that showing.

There are quite a few that can be given chances in the two-and-a-half mile contest but Godblessyourosie appeals as a potential improver.

The big pot on the card is for the preceding Bia Energy Handicap Hurdle and Petrol Head may be able to land the lion’s share after his facile win at Downpatrick last time.

He looked better than ever on his first outing for Katy Brown, landing a gamble in some style. The handicapper reacted by giving him a 12lb hike for that easy win but he may still have a few pounds up his sleeve, getting in here off a low weight.

It’s a decent line-up in the opening four-year-old novice hurdle and St Faz sets a good standard off a mark of 120.

Edward O’Grady’s charge is back over jumps now after a couple of spins on the Flat and this looks like a nice race for him. He was a cosy winner when last seen over timber at Killarney in May and is still relatively unexposed in this sphere.
