Local Women Sport magazine Armagh Senior Championship preliminary round: Keady 1-6 Middletown 0-6

MIDDLETOWN will have to wait another year at least before they take their first ever title in the Local Women Sport Magazine Armagh senior championship. Losers in three finals across four years from 2015 to 2018, the Na Fianna girls crashed out to south Armagh rivals Keady in Monday evening’s preliminary round game.

The all-important goal came from Catherine Connolly during the first half and Keady led by 1-3 to 0-4 at the break with all the points coming from frees, four for Jenny Curry for Middeltown and three from Keady's Orlagh Murray.

Curry and Murray each added another two points during the second half as Keady stayed far enough ahead to secure a quarter-final meeting with An Port Mór this Sunday.

Best for the winners were Murray and Mary Meehan while Curry was well supported by Aislinn Harvey and Louise McCooey

Keady: C Connolly (1-0), O Murray (0-5), T White (0-1)

Middletown: J Curry (0-6)

Tyrone Intermediate Championship final: Naomh Treasa, Dungannon 3-12 Naomh Bríd Brocagh 0-6

NAOMH Treasa are back again as Tyrone Intermediate champions after this comfortable win over last season’s junior champions Brocagh in Monday evening’s final at Stewartstown.

The Dungannon outfit quickly got into their stride and led by four points, including three from Róisín McErlean, before Cáitríona Canavan opened Brocagh’s account in the 14th minute.

Naomh Treasa had stretched their lead to 0-9 to 0-2 by the break and although Lauren Fitzgerald and Róisín O’Neill-McKee struck with points for Brocagh at the start of the second half, Dungannon substitute Cora McNulty placed Cara Little for a goal within minutes of entering the game and then added a second goal to put the game well beyond their opponents.

Another substitute Áine Ferran hit the third Dungannon goal soon after her introduction and there was little that captain Siobhan Donnelly and Sally McCann, Brocagh’s two best players, could do to stem the tide.

Clare Kelly was player of match for Dungannon and Caitriona Ferran, Grainne Rafferty and Róisín McErlean all caught the eye, although there will be some concern over McErlean who took a bad knock just before the break.

Naomh Treasa scorers: Cora McNulty (1-0), C Little (1-0), Á Ferran (1-0), R McErlean (0-5, 0-3 frees), G Rafferty (0-3), B Jones (0-1), C Ferran (0-1), L Casey (0-1), L Barker (0-1)

Brocagh scorers: S McCann (0-2), C Canavan (0-1), L Fitzgerald (0-1), R O’Neill-McKee (0-1), G McDonald (0-1 free)
