THE older they get, the more prolific the Northern Ireland Veterans squad become as they prepare for the visit of the Canadian Legends in back-to-back games and securing a small slice of history.

The Canadian squads have landed in Belfast with an over 50s team and an over 60s team.

It’ll be the first-ever fully fledged over 60s Northern Ireland team that will take to the field at the east Belfast venue on Wednesday night.

Chief organiser, Gerry Goodall said: “Every game we play, we nominate a charity while keeping fit and healthy at the same time. It’s a fantastic outlet for our lads involved and a great camaraderie has developed since we started playing games and raising funds for local charities.

“Veterans hope as many people as possible can come down and support them in this unique occasion and also to support the Corran Integrated Primary School, Larne which is the chosen charity.

Goodall, who played for Irish League club Larne during his younger days added: “Sure it’s what we do - playing the game we all Love.”

Fixtures: Harland and Wolff Welders FC (Thursday May 2): Over 60s game kicks off at 6pm and the oer 50s game follows at 7.15pm.
