ANNAGH United took full advantage of getting the go ahead in the wake of Storm Éowyn by hammering Newry City 4-0 at the BMG Arena to move into third place in the Playr-FIt Championship.

Kris Calvert weighed in with a brace for Ciaran McGurgan’s side, who go to Bangor next Saturday in the only all-Championship Clearer Water Irish Cup last-16 tie.

In the only other Championship match to take place on Saturday, Ballinamallard fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Ards at Ferney Park.

Two first-half goals from Aidan Steele – the first a penalty – put the visitors in control, but after the break a Sean McAteer double – the second a penalty – earned the battling Mallards a point.

Newington’s short hop to Dundela and second-placed Limavady’s trip to Armagh City were postponed, as were Friday night’s matches in which Bangor - six points clear at the top - had been due to host Ballyclare Comrades, while Institute and the Welders had been set to clash at the Brandywell.

The Bangor v Ballyclare showdown has been rearranged for Tuesday night at Clandeboye Park (7.45pm).
