ARDS’ upturn in fortunes ramped up with a stunning 4-1 Playr-Fit Championship success against Newry City at the Showgrounds on Friday night.

Patrick Cafolla, Mark Carson, Eamon Scannell and Conor Scannell were on target for the visitors, Ryan McNickle halving the deficit in the 56th minute before a red card for Noel Healy three minutes later rocked City.

The victory, on the back of beating league leaders H&W Welders and a BetMcLean Cup success over top flight Portadown, sends Ards up to fifth, just five points off the pace.

In Saturday’s action (3pm), the Welders - ahead of Bangor on goal difference at the summit - host joint third Limavady, while Lee Feeney’s men take on Institute at Clandeboye Park.

Armagh City - 3-2 winners at top flight Loughgall in the BetMcLean Cup - tackle Newington at Holm Park, Dundela - joint third with Limavady - go to Ballyclare Comrades and Annagh United welcome Ballinamallard.
