LEE Feeney insists the pain of defeat can help propel Bangor’s Playr-Fit Championship glory bid.

The Seasiders appeared to be coasting to the title until struggling Newry City made a big splash last weekend with a shock 2-1 win at the Showgrounds.

Bangor have a six-point lead over second-placed Limavady, although the Welders could cut the advantage to five points by winning their match in hand.

Feeney’s men, chasing a return to the top flight for the first time since 2009, tackle Stephen Small’s Ballyclare Comrades at Clandeboye Park on Friday night (7.45pm).

“We have to come out and respond,” said the Bangor boss.

“When we’re in the position we’re in and we’re fighting for titles, we’ve been in this league long enough to know that if you turn up any less than your best, you can get turned over.

“Every team on their day can beat us and I always let the players know that.

“That’s a harsh lesson for us from that point of view, and you have to deal with emotions – and we’ve already had a lot of emotions to deal with this season.

“Hurt is certainly one of them, we have been hurting after games, and it’s how you respond to those setbacks that’s the making of you as a team.”

Also on Friday night, Institute and the Welders clash at the Brandywell (7.45pm).

On Saturday, Dundela host Newington at Wilgar Park (2pm), Annagh take on Newry City at the BMG Arena, Armagh City welcome Limavady to Holm Park and Ballinamallard face Ards at Ferney Park (all 3pm).
