DUNDELA boss Stephen Gourley has hit out at Playr-Fit Championship sides having to play on a Friday night.

The high-flying Duns travel to face Annagh United at the BMG Arena under the Friday night lights this week (7.45pm), with the Wilgar Park chief expressing his view that “Saturday is for football”.

Dundela are in third, just a point behind the Welders and four adrift of leaders Bangor.

Gourley said: “In my opinion, Saturday is for football but I don’t think that will reach the ears of the hierarchy.

“Lads are working on a Friday – they are, after all, part-time footballers at this level.”

He continued: “It will take total effort and commitment to get a result at Annagh. This league is all about putting together a consistent run of results because there are so many quality teams and quality players. We have players in our squad who have the ability to hurt teams.”

On Saturday (all 3pm), Stephen Small’s Ballyclare Comrades host Barry Gray’s Newry City – relegated from the Sports Direct Premiership last season - at Dixon Park, Ards take on Armagh City at Clandeboye Park and Newington tackle Institute at Larne’s Inver Park.
