The FAI have announced that Republic of Ireland manager Eileen Gleeson will not have her contract extended off the back of the EURO 2025 play-off final defeat to Wales.

Ireland reached League A of the UEFA Nations League under Gleeson’s stewardship, while she also previously worked as Vera Pauw’s number two, before becoming Irish manager on a permanent basis in December 2023.

Ultimately the association have decided not to renew the Dubliner’s contract, which ran out after the 3-2 aggregate play-off defeat to the Welsh.

A famous win against France in Pairc Uí Chaoimh was among the highlights of Gleeson’s tenure.

The FAI stated the search for a new manager will begin immediately, thanking the former manager for her spell in charge:

“Eileen has long been a terrific ambassador for women & girls’ football in Ireland and she leaves behind a positive impact on our women’s national team that included an excellent Uefa Nations League campaign, a memorable win over France in Cork and a run to the play-offs for Euro 2025.

“We thank Eileen for everything that she has done.”
