Recently retired former Manchester United defender Raphael Varane has joined the board of Serie A club Como.
The 31-year-old defender left Old Trafford after his contract expired following the FA Cup final win against Manchester City and signed a two-year deal with Cesc Fabregas’ promoted side.
But Varane sustained a knee injury on his debut during a Coppa Italia match against Sampdoria and the 2018 World Cup winner announced his retirement last month.

The Frenchman said he would be staying with Como and has now been confirmed as a board member of the Italian outfit.

“Throughout my career, I’ve been motivated by a desire to improve and strive for excellence. Transitioning from the field to the boardroom isn’t the end of my football journey; it’s a new beginning that I’m looking forward to.
“Joining the board of Como allows me to continue contributing to the sport while shaping its future.”
Varane will focus on youth and education as part of his new role, as well as helping advise Como to develop for long-term success.
“This new phase of my career feels like a second birth, not an ending. I’m not saying goodbye to football,” he added.
“Joining the Como 1907 Development Committee excites me, and I look forward to being part of an ambitious project that resonates with my values.
“Together, we will invest in youth development, expand educational opportunities, and innovate product solutions to bring the club’s vision to life.”
