Jarrod Bowen may have made his TV acting debut on Eastenders this week, but West Ham manager Graham Potter does not think his captain will be the next Vinnie Jones.
England forward Bowen made a surprise appearance in Wednesday night’s episode of the BBC soap, in a video message wishing Hammers fan Billy Mitchell all the best for his wedding.
“I heard about that but I missed it – I need to see it,” said Potter. “It’s not going to win an Oscar, though, is it?
“I wouldn’t have thought he’s going to be the new Vinnie Jones.”
Eastenders is set in West Ham heartland with many of its characters supporting the Hammers, while Bowen’s future father-in-law Danny Dyer used to star in it.
“It’s hard enough keeping the real fans happy, without getting involved with fictional ones,” added Potter.
Hammers boss Potter also enjoyed a showbiz week having met with Idris Elba, the star of The Wire and Luther.
The Hollywood actor was in east London as part of the Premier League’s ‘More Than A Game’ campaign, which celebrates individuals who are making a significant impact through football in their communities.
“The work that they do there is inspiring,” said Potter. “It’s a subject close to his heart and the safe space that the club provides is brilliant.
“Providing people with ambition, hope and support – it was great.”
Elba is a die-hard Arsenal fan but Potter added: “He had to sign a West Ham top.
“I made sure he enjoyed that as he supports somebody else on the other side of the city.
“He was on our turf so he had to do what we said. He’s a gentleman and it was a good evening.”
