Loughgall and Newry City couldn’t be separated when they met at Lakeview Park this evening, with both sides failing to capitalise on their chances in front of goal.

The point moved Dean Smith’s side into the top half of the Sports Direct Premiership table, bringing them on level points with Coleraine, although Loughgall boast a more favourable scoring average.

Newry City on the other hand remain at the foot of the division, securing their second draw in a row to add to the point picked up against Ballymena Untied last Friday night.

Newry had the best chance to open the scoring when Nathaniel Ferris fouled Donal Scullion as Loughgall attempted to clear a corner, but Adam Salley’s penatly kick was superbly turned away by Berraat Turker.

Loughgall followed it up with chances of their own as Luke Cartwright got on the end of a Jamie Rea corner but headed the ball over the bar while the outstretched Leon Boyd’s effort at goal ended in the same way.

The home side had calls for their own penalty when Newry defender Barney McKeown slipped inside the box and may have touched the ball with his arm, but the referee waved away all calls for a spot kick and the score remained 0-0 at half time.

Salley again had the chance to put Newry in the lead, but Loughgall goalkeeper Turker was equal to his effort once more, pushing his headed shot wide of the post. Benji Magee could have stolen it for Loughgall, but Conor Mitchell pulled off a fine save to earn his side a draw.
