After impressing in the league phase of the UEFA Europa Conference League, Shamrock Rovers face a tough task in the shape of Molde of Norway to secure their place in the round of 16.
After losing only to Chelsea in the first six games, Rovers were four goals away from pipping Cercle Brugge to the eighth spot in the Conference League’s round of 16 places.
The League of Ireland side’s opponents Molde, on the other hand, just scraped into the knockout play-off phase on goal difference at the expense of Scottish side Heart of Midlothian.
Their two wins in the league phase came against Co Antrim side Larne, the first side from the North to qualify for a European competition, and Mladá Boleslav of Czechia.
Both sides in this match-up actually came up against Larne, with the Norwegians winning 3-0 at home against the Invermen and Shamrock Rovers coming out of Windsor Park with a 4-1 win in the ‘All-Ireland derby’.
