On this day in 2009, Manchester City announced they had reached an agreement to sign striker Carlos Tevez.
The 25-year-old arrived on a five-year deal from city rivals United having spent two seasons at Old Trafford.
Speaking to the club website, City boss Mark Hughes said: “It is terrific news. Carlos is an international player of the highest class who possesses all the attributes that will help drive this club forward.”
An Olympic champion with Argentina at the 2004 Games in Athens, Tevez won successive Premier League titles in his spell with United but boss Sir Alex Ferguson was not surprised to see him leave.
“I half expected Carlos Tevez would be going a long time back,” said the United manager.
“I think he maybe did a deal around January because I spoke to him and gave him an offer on the night we played Inter Milan (in March) and he never came back to me.
“I phoned him on holiday and he never got back to me and I texted him twice and he never got back to me then either, so obviously he had made his mind up a long time ago.

“He was a good player and did well for us, but he obviously assessed the situation and wanted to go somewhere else.”
Tevez was named City skipper in 2010 and led the side to an FA Cup win the following year, but controversy followed when the striker opted not to warm-up during a Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich, which led to a period out of the squad.
He returned to the fold to help City win the Premier League title in 2012 and ended his time at the Etihad with 73 goals in 148 appearances across four seasons.
A move to Juventus followed in 2013 while he also had a stint in China, in between spells at his boyhood club Boca Juniors.
