Burnley head coach Scott Parker admitted he was a “little bit disappointed” not to snatch three points against Middlesbrough following their goalless draw at the Riverside.

A fairly even game saw both sides have chances, but the Clarets had two excellent opportunities through Josh Brownhill after the break.

The Burnley skipper was denied by a great block from centre-half Dael Fry before having their best chance of the match, where he smashed the ball over the bar.

A draw extends Burnley’s unbeaten run to 11 Sky Bet Championship games and Parker believes his side still picked up a “good point”.

“Little bit disappointed, I thought the game ebbed and flowed tonight,” Parker said.

“We had a glorious chance, I think we have a couple to be fair, but one big chance with Browny. I don’t think you’d want a better man to put it in, he’s proven that over the course of the season. Didn’t manage to do that tonight.

“Overall, it’s a good point, we’ve had some tough fixtures, we knew tonight would be a big test for us, not just in terms of the opposition we’re facing, but just in terms of where we were after a real tough schedule.

“The fixtures have probably not been our best of friends in terms of when they’ve come out at the start of the season: Sheffield United away, Boxing Day has been a tough game and tonight as well.

“Overall, really pleased with the team.”

Parker also praised the influence of Jaidon Anthony, who created plenty of openings for Burnley down the right flank.

“He was superb again Jaidon, like always not enough compliments to say about Jaidon,” Parker added.

“He’s probably one of the most stable players I’ve come across, really, just a guarantee in what he brings.

“He pumps out huge numbers every week and for him to keep maintaining those numbers is compliments to him really.”

Middlesbrough also enjoyed chances in the game, with Delano Burgzorg putting in an impressive shift and Finn Azaz having a great opportunity when his curling strike was pushed away by James Trafford in the second half.

A hard-fought point sends Boro into the Championship play-off positions, where they sit above Watford on goal difference.

Reflecting on the match, Boro boss Michael Carrick said: “I really enjoyed the game actually, I thought it was a real test of both teams, I think we tested each other in so many different ways.

“It wasn’t the most entertaining or exciting, maybe, in terms of goalmouth action, but I thought within the game there was a lot of good level scenarios and we dealt with it really well.

“I thought we stepped up to it really well, we defended particularly well for large spells.

“Couldn’t quite find that bit around the goal, that little final pass and that final action that we normally find.

“But we controlled the game well at times, I just thought it was a pretty even game.”
