Shamrock Rovers progression will result in Europa League match-up with Malmo or PAOK

The winners of the Europa League Third qualifying match-up, Shamrock Rovers versus NK Celje will face the losing side in Malmo and PAOK’s third qualifying round in the Champions League.

Shamrock Rovers have been entered into the Europa League third qualifying round after a 6-2 aggregate defeat to Sparta Prague in the Champions League second round on July 30.

They will face NK Celje following the Slovenian side’s similar crash out of the Champions League in a 6-1 aggregate defeat to Slovak Super Liga champions Slovan Bratislava for an opportunity to welcome either Malmo or PAOK to the Europa League.

The loser of this Europa League match-up will be greeted by the winner of Ordabasy vs Pyunik in a two legged qualifying round in the Europa Conference League.

In the Europa Conference League, NIFL champions Larne face Kosovo’s Ballkani side on Thursday August 8 in a third qualifying round match-up after a devastating 7-0 aggregate defeat to Latvian champions, RFS, in the first round of the Champions League qualifiers.

The winners of this contest will face the losing side of the Europa League contest between Belarus’ Dinamo Minsk and Gibraltar’s Lincoln Red Imps in the next round of the Conference League.

Both Shamrock Rovers and NIFL champions Larne were entered into the Champions Path of the Europa Conference League Draw, however, St Patrick’s Athletic have progressed through the tournament’s main path.

St Patrick’s Athletic defeated Vaduz on August 1 in a 5-3 aggregate performance to progress to the Conference League’s third qualifying round.

They will Azerbaijani side Sabah after they edged past Maccabi Haifa in a tense penalty shootout in the previous qualifying round.

The winner of this round will face the victor of Georgia’s Iberia 1999 and Turkey’s Istanbul Basaksehir Conference League third qualifying round contest.

Match dates and kick-off times for the next round will be announced by August 9 2024.
