LIMAVADY boss Paul Owens insists the Playr-Fit Championship title race is alive and kicking after the Roesiders moved within seven points of long-time runaway leaders Bangor with a game in hand.

United edged out north west rivals Institute 2-1 at the Showgrounds, while the Seasiders were held 0-0 at Clandeboye Park by north Down neighbours Ards in the battle for a place in next season’s Sports Direct Premiership.

“It’s nice when you hear the leaders have dropped points,” admitted Owens.

“Every point from here on in is going to be huge. We are just trying to get as high up the table as we can.

“Stute are a quality side so we were happy to get over the line and get the three points.”

A Connor McCloskey goal and an Ian Parkhill penalty put the home side in control before Brandon Diau pulled one back late on.

The Welders – nine points off the pace but with two matches in hand – beat Annagh 3-0 at Blanchflower Stadium, Armagh City were 3-0 winners over Ballyclare Comrades at Dixon Park and Ballinamallard defeated Dundela 3-1 at Ferney Park.

Newry City slumped to a 1-0 defeat against basement side Newington at the Showgrounds on Friday night.
