Donegal GAA

Football is the dominant code in Donegal and the county that has produced some of the best Ulster players of recent times, including All-Ireland-winning captain Michael Murphy. The highlights of the county’s footballing history have been the two All-Ireland victories in 1992 and 2012 while also reaching the final in 2014 where they lost to Kerry. Over the next few years they were always in and around the conversation for All-Ireland contenders and one of the teams to watch. However, following Jim McGuinness’s exit and some off the field controversies, the attention has shifted away from the field for Tír Chonnaill and the team have struggled to keep up with the likes of Tyrone, Derry and Armagh. Last season, Donegal welcomed backMcGuinness with and went on to be one of the dominant forces in football, winning the Division Two title in the league, the Ulster SFC title, both in tight finals against Armagh and getting to the All-Ireland semi-finals, where they lost out to Galway. In hurling, the county have won the Nicky Rackard Cup on four occasions, including in 2024, while they finished runners-up twice.
