Abkhazian President Aslan Bzhania said he would step down and hold elections if protesters left the parliament building.

It comes as legislators consider ratifying an agreement that would allow Russians to buy apartments in the region.

He is the first person convicted of a felony to be elected president and, at 78, is the oldest person chosen for the office.

Donald Trump also flipped Georgia, which had voted for Democrats four years ago, and retained the closely contested state of North Carolina.

The victory leaves Ms Harris heavily reliant on the “blue wall” of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin to have a credible path to the White House.

Ms Harris’s campaign says that the ‘blue wall’ of Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin was now the Democrat’s ‘clearest path’ to victory.

The closeness of the race in the seven swing states raise the likelihood that, once again, a victor might not be known on election night.

The bomb threats in Arizona, Georgia and Pennsylvania turned out to be hoaxes, but forced evacuations and some polling places to extend hours.

The run-up to the election has been marked by concerns over disinformation, foreign influence and threats to election workers and voting systems.

Donald Trump and Kamala Harris have each notched early wins in reliably Republican and Democratic states so far.
